Laboratory tests proved what grandmas have known for years: chicken soup is excellent for your colon. The researchers discovered that chicken soup and its principal components hinder the movement of neutrophils—white blood cells that consume bacteria and viruses capable of infectious diseases. As the temperature decreases outside, get comfortable inside and curl up by the fire with a bowl of deliciously, heated soup.

 Ingredients

  • 4 cups fat-free, low-sodium chicken broth

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 3/4 cup sweet potato, diced

  • 3/4 cup turnip, diced

  • 2 ribs organic celery, diced

  • 2 carrots, sliced

  • 1/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped

  • 2 cups skinless, organic chicken, cooked and diced

 Directions

  1. Bring broth to a boil in a large saucepan, and add vegetables. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer, until vegetables are tender.

  2. Add cooked chicken and simmer for 3-4 minutes.
