Will Smith Finds Out He Has Precancerous Polyp During Vlog of Colonoscopy

After celebrating his 50th birthday for a full year, Will Smith gets serious about his health and heads in for a colonoscopy.

Will Smith thought that his vlogging adventures would be hilarious but the actor told Ellen DeGeneres that one of his latest vlogs ended up being more serious.

The 51-year-old actor appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" with Martin Lawrence to promote the latest film in their popular franchise, "Bad Boys for Life." Minutes into the interview, Ellen brought up Smith's vlog of his colonoscopy.

“I thought it was fun, I was gonna vlog it, you know?” he told Ellen. “So I was like, ‘Oh this’ll be cool. I’m gonna vlog my colonoscopy…’ And I do it.”

Will had a team document his whole experience with the colonoscopy, including when he got the concerning results. It turned out that Will had a polyp that the doctor removed. The polyp was sent to the lab and it was revealed that it was made up of pre-cancerous cells.

"What it means for you in real talk," the doctor told Smith over a FaceTime call, "instead of getting a screening every ten years, which is what happens when people have a normal colonoscopy, you need to get your's done in the next two to three years."

The actor did his best to keep a smile on his face but it was clear that the news was heavy on his mind. The doctor made sure to commended him and celebrated the fact that he is healthy.

"We know that screenings and early detection can save lives," Will's doctor said as she thanked him for helping raise awareness.

"When I decided I wanted to shoot this as a vlog," Smith said, "I didn't realize that there'd be a pre-cancerous polyp." The star ended his video with a sigh of relief and in good spirits. "We good," Smith said as the vlog concluded.
